Case Study: The Decision Co. Data Demonstrates Bipartisan Support for Legalization of Cannabis

The Pennsylvania Cannabis Coalition (PCC) needed data to persuade Republican legislators in the state to support the legalization of cannabis. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the state was facing a large budget deficit, and legislation to legalize, regulate, and tax cannabis could help put the state’s fiscal situation back on track.

Results that Reinforce Your Arguments

The Decision Co. executed a survey that reinforced PCC’s argument: Pennsylvanians support allowing the sale of adult-use cannabis. The survey illustrated that support held across typical partisan and geographic divisions in the state. TDC’s data and findings provided indisputable evidence that Pennsylvanians would prefer to see the state legalize, regulate, and tax the sale of adult-use cannabis instead of raising income, sales, and business taxes.

Furthermore, the data showed a clear path forward for persuading Republican legislators to support adult-use cannabis. Far from being an electoral drag, supporting adult use of cannabis had potentially positive effects for a Republican legislator. These findings led to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer: Some Pa. Republicans are open to legalizing marijuana after coronavirus blew a hole in the budget: ‘It’s inevitable’.

Good Data Continues to Work For You

The data continues to be used by the coalition to advance their principle-based approach to adult-use marijuana, as efforts to legalize cannabis are ongoing in the state.
“The Decision Co. gave us the insight we needed to craft an impactful advocacy campaign. As a result, we were able to persuade legislators and advance our policy agenda.”
